Weak compactness, transfinite Schauder bases and differentiability

We provide a characterization of the class of nonseparable Banach spaces that contain a nonseparable weakly compact set (respectively a relatively weakly compact transfinite basic sequence) in terms of differentiability properties of those spaces.
