A prime decomposition theorem for handcuff graphs in S3

We define a prime decomposition for a handcuff graph by 2-spheres each of which intersects the handcuff at exactly three points and prove that every irreducible handcuff graph can be uniquely decomposed into a finite number of prime handcuffs and θ-curves.
