The use of process bus modern technology in accordance with IEC 61850 standard-based method for data exchange in the power sector improves modern measurement procedure and protection automation. It also gives birth to the integration and complex building of functional automation and control systems based on Ethernet technology-based network devices. The paper presents measuring tests of process bus equipment and the operation of protection functions, the measurements of which are performed in such an environment. The main differences between direct data transfer (via dedicated fiber) and data transfer through a Ethernet switch are described in details.
