Annealing-based particle swarm optimization to solve the redundant reliability problem with multiple component choices

► A new particle swarm optimization algorithm is proposed for a reliability optimization problem. ► The problem is to maximize the system reliability considering multiple component choices. ► The Metropolis-Hastings strategy is used as a local search engine to enhance PSO. ► The performance of the algorithm is comparable with some previously proposed methods. ► The proposed algorithm fully outperforms other versions of PSO.
