The considerations contained in this paper are based on the results of laboratory tests of the central slab-column connection. In these tests models, an additional reinforcement ensuring the structure's resistance to a progressive collapse was applied according to recommendations in the PN-EN 1991-1-7:2008 and PN-EN 1992-1-1:2008 standards. Some regulations concerning the need for applying such reinforcement can also be found in the American and Australian standard and in the Bulletin FIB. The results of the research were compared with calculations based on a spatial numerical model representing the analyzed phenomenon. In the numerical model, the predefined material models of steel and concrete were used, taking into account non-linear dependencies of strength of these materials. The values of displacements of the top surface of the slab depending on the exerted load obtained in the numerical model were compared with the laboratory measurements.
