The current contribution scrutinizes the development of hydrogen (H2) gas sensor through the successful immobilization of Pd-Pt core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) onto the surface of Si nanowires (NWs) cluster. The grown structure with large effective surface area, high aspect ratio, and quantum size of the core-shell NPs showed noteworthy augmentation on the sensing properties of H2 at low temperature. A fast response-recovery time 7/7sec, response magnitude of 5.02% (to 10,000ppm) with a broad detection range (1-40,000ppm) towards H2 was obtained at 75oC. The superior sensing features along with negligible humidity effect within entire detection range, excellent repeatability and stability indicate the sensor a promising candidate for real-world applications.
