In this work, Mn ferrite-chitosan magnetic nanocomposites were directly prepared by a novel microwave-assisted hydrothermal method in a short time. Subsequently, these Mn ferrite magnetic composite nanoparticles were employed to absorb Cu2+ ions in water. This synthesis method and adsorption process have shown promising prospect due to its inexpensive raw materials, easy operation and controllable conditions. Adsorption data fits well with the Langmuir isotherm models with a maximum adsorption capacity (qm) and a Langmuir adsorption equilibrium constant (K) of 65.1Â mg/g and 0.090Â L/mg, respectively. The adsorption kinetic agrees well with pseudo second order model with the pseudo second rate constants (K2) of 0.0468 and 0.00189Â g/mg/min for solutions with initial Cu2+ ions of 50 and 100Â mg/L, respectively.
