A simple approach for surface hardening of polystyrene

► A simple method to improve surface properties is applied to glassy polymers. ► Hydrolyzed TEOS was preferentially segregated at the surface of polystyrene. ► A few nm-thick polymer-inorganic hybrid layer was constructed at the film surface. ► The PS/TEOS films exhibited excellent wear resistance and anti-oxidant properties.
