► The magnetism of the first-row adatom on the ZnO nanotube is investigated. ► H-, Be-, and B-adsorption on the ZnO nanotube cannot induce the magnetism. ► Li-, C-, N-, O-, and F-adsorption on the ZnO nanotube can induce the magnetism.
