The effect of surfactants on the magnetic and optical properties of Co-doped SnO2 nanoparticles

► The ferromagnetism and the orange emission are declined with the increase of surfactant concentration. ► The bound magnetic polaron model is responsible for ferromagnetism, where the carriers are provided by oxygen vacancies. ► The surfactants suppress the formation of oxygen vacancies.
