Laser diffusion nitriding of Ti-6Al-4V for improving hardness and wear resistance

► Solid-state laser diffusion nitriding successfully achieved on Ti-6Al-4V. ► Surface roughness remained almost unchanged in diffusion nitriding. ► Compared with the substrate the hardness was increased by about 2.3 times. ► Wear resistance was increased by about 8 times.
