Anatase TiO2 hollow microspheres with exposed {0Â 0Â 1} facets: Facile synthesis and enhanced photocatalysis

► TiO2 hollow spheres with exposed (ca. 60%) {0 0 1} facets were synthesized. ► A plausible mechanism for formation of the TiO2 hollow spheres is discussed. ► The products show enhanced photocatalytic activity for degradation methylene blue.
