Propene oxidation and NO reduction over MgCu–Al(Fe) mixed oxides derived from hydrotalcite-like compounds

• Synthesis of series of hydrotalcite-based CuMg3Al2−xFex-mixed oxide catalysts prepared by co-precipitation method.
• Influences of transition metal content and of Cu/Fe ratio on propene oxidation and SCR of NO by C3H6.
• Better activity for SCR of NO by copper mixed oxide.
• Better activity for propene oxidation by iron mixed oxide.

Propene oxidation and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO by C3H6 have been studied over a series of hydrotalcite-based CuMg3Al2−xFex (x = 0, 1, 2)-mixed oxide catalysts prepared by co-precipitation method. The solids were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). The influences of transition metal content and of Cu/Fe ratio on the catalytic performance have been investigated. When copper species are the only active phase, a better NO conversion is obtained. The introduction of iron species into the structure reduced the activity toward SCR of NO but lowered the temperature of complete propene conversion.
