Layer-by-layer assembly and tribological property of multilayer ultrathin films constructed by modified graphene sheets and polyethyleneimine

► A stable black dispersion of PSS-GS was obtained successfully. ► The graphene-based multilayer films were constructed by LBL assembly technique. ► The graphene-based films had high load affording ability and long anti-wear life.
