On the nature of hydrogen bonding between the phosphatidylcholine head group and water and dimethylsulfoxide

► DMSO displaces water from first hydration shell around PC headgroup. ► Water hydrogen bonded to PC headgroup is unaffected by presence of DMSO. ► In 10% DMSO solution, number of hydrogen bond paths between PC headgroups increases. ► In 30% DMSO solution, number of hydrogen bond paths between PC headgroups decreases.
