Surface electrical discharges and plasma formation on electrolyte solutions

► We demonstrate microsecond timescale surface electric discharges on salt-water solutions. ► We detected Mach 4-8 shock fronts followed by a transonic fluid pulse. ► We propose that detonation fronts are produced by exothermic dense plasma chemistry.
