Photofragment angular momentum polarization in the photolysis of symmetric top molecules: Production, detection, and rotational depolarization

► We describe the product polarization in the photolysis of symmetric top molecules. ► The polarization is written in terms of the anisotropy transforming coefficients. ► We studied the role of the angular momentum depolarization due to molecular rotation. ► We present a compact spherical tensor expression for the 2 + 1 REMPI absorption signal.
