Eu(III) complex luminescence behavior upon chlorine substitution in the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand: A theoretical and experimental study

► Eu-complexes with non-chlorinated or chlorinated phenanthroline were synthesized. ► Molecular structures for complexes using the Sparkle and DFT methods were obtained. ► The chlorinated complex shown higher luminescence intensities.
