Site-dependent electronic structures of a single molecule on a metal surface studied by scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy

- The electronic structures of a single para-cyanobenzoate (pCB) molecule adsorbed on Cu(1 1 0) have been examined using STM and STS.
- We found that the energy level of the LUMO state depends on the adsorption site of pCB.
- The site transformation of pCB induced by the injection of tunneling electrons from the STM tip has also been presented.
