Unraveling the heterogeneity in N butyl-N-methylpiperidinium trifluromethanesulfonimide ionic liquid by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy

NOESY and HOESY NMR spectra indicate existence of microscopic heterogeneity in piperidinium ionic liquids. However, the nature of interaction is quite different compared to that of imidazolium ionic liquids. The results portraits the reason for different properties of these two popular classes of ionic liquids.
