Excited electron dynamics at ferrocene-terminated self-assembled monolayers on Au(1Â 1Â 1): Lengthened lifetime of image potential state

► Two-photon photoemission spectroscopy and UPS have been employed. ► The electron dynamics of ferrocene-terminated self-assembled monolayers was studied. ► For the 11-ferrocenyl-1-undecanethiol SAM, an image potential state was observed. ► By forming the C10-SAM beforehand, the IPS lifetime was lengthened to ∼9 ps. ► The IPS lifetime is lengthened because of the improvement in the molecular ordering.
