Ab initio molecular dynamics study of the Helmholtz layer formed on solid-liquid interfaces and its capacitance

► The potential variation at interfaces is analyzed using our new scheme based on AIMD. ► A potential varies mainly in a thin surface region referred to as the contact layer. ► An estimation of the Helmholtz capacitance is achieved without empirical parameters.
