Anisotropic magnetic susceptibility of exotic nematics in multipolar hard spherical colloids

► Axial and biaxial nematic-like order in mutipolar hard spherical colloids is described. ► The study is done on colloids low structured and the multipole moments are axially symmetric. ► We provide general ideas for describing nematic-like order in different symmetries. ► We model the anisotropic magnetic susceptibility in exotic nematics. ► We use the Landau-de Gennes theory to decide properly the order parameters in nematics of different symmetries.
