► Genetic algorithm (GA) is applied to π-conjugated polymer systems. ► Polaron and soliton GA solutions were similar to traditional methods. ► GA reduces the number of iterations needed to reach convergence. ► GA presents convergence guaranteed regardless the initial guess used.
