On the magnetic behavior of spherical aromatic compounds. Insights from the closo-[B12H12]2− cluster through chemical shift tensor maps

► Introduction of the anisotropic shielding surface to describe the overall magnetic response. ► Description of the unhomogeneous magnetic response in spherical aromatic systems. ► Rationalization of the isotropic/anisotropic magnetic response region in closo-[B12H12]2−. ► A highly isotropic regions is found as a sphere of 0.6 of radius inside the core. ► Even in highly spherical systems, an unhomogeneous magnetic response is observed.
