Laser-excited luminescence of trace Nd3+ impurity in LaBr3 revealed by Raman spectroscopy

► Strong additional bands were observed in Raman spectra of LaBr3. ► The additional bands were attributed to laser-excited luminescence of trace Nd3+ impurity. ► Raman spectroscopy shows ultrasensitivity in detecting trace luminescent lanthanide ions.
