Multiple ionization of CH3I clusters by nanosecond laser: Electron energy distribution and formation mechanism of multiply charged ions

► The production mechanisms for Cq+ and Iq+ (q = 2-4) were studied in CH3I clusters. ► The energetic electrons play an important role for the formation of Cq+and Iq+ (q = 2-4). ► The early splitting of cluster was disadvantageous to the production of multiply charged ions.
