Biwire structure of methanol inside carbon nanotubes

► Methanol molecules in carbon nanotubes open to a liquid methanol reservoir studied. ► Four different filling modes, 'bulk', 'biwall', 'biwire' and 'monowire' found. ► The molecules undergo concerted rotational fluctuation around the tube axis.
