Role of water in the ageing mechanism of paper

► NMR 2D technique for studying ageing effect on Whatman paper. ► NMR 2D is able to detected γ-irradiation effect: crosslinking and degradation. ► Experimental results suggest two-site residence model for water siting in cellulose. ► The two-site collapse in one site with increasing of absorbed doses.
