Photovoltaic properties of dimeric methanofullerenes containing hydroxyl groups

► New dimeric methanofullerene bearing hydroxyl groups was synthesized. ► The influence of covalent linkage of fullerene on the performance was investigated. ► The hydroxyl groups failed to improve the properties of the methanofullerenes. ► The solar cell based on the dimeric fullerene showed a PCE of 2.64%.
