A quantitative quantum chemical model of the Dewar-Knott color rule for cationic diarylmethanes

► We describe an analogous series of SA-CASSCF solutions for cationic diarylmethanes. ► We show that the solutions are consistent with the Dewar-Knott color rule. ► We express the Dewar-Knott rule as a generalized Hammett equation.
