Order-disorder degree of self-assembled clusters: Influence on photoluminescence emission and morphology of BaxSr1−xTiO3 nanocrystals

► Synthesis of BaxSr1−xTiO3 using the microwave-assisted hydrothermal method. ► Sr/Ba substitution increases PL emission intensity (higher structural disorder). ► Greater local disorder for the samples with 25% Ba fosters oriented crystal growth. ► Different clusters [TiO5]-[TiO6] organization leads to different morphologies ► Meso, poly and single crystals are observed in micro- and nano-scale.
