The voltammetry of surface bound 2-anthraquinonyl groups in room temperature ionic liquids: Cation size effects

► Glassy carbon microelectrode modified with covalently-tethered 2-anthraquinonyl film. ► Comparative study of electroactive film in three room temperature ionic liquids. ► Size effect of ionic liquid cation size on electrochemistry of film observed. ► Smallest cation resulted in two one-electron reduction processes of anthraquinone. ► In ionic liquid with largest cation only the first one-electron process was possible.
