The impact of bromine substitution on the photophysical properties of a homodinuclear Ru-tpphz-Ru complex

► The photophysic of the new homodinuclear complex [(tbbpy)2Ru(3,16-Br2-tpphz)Ru(tbbpy)2](PF6)4 is presented. ► The bromine substituents lower the emission quantum yield. ► The bromine substituents decelerate the charge-transfer process. ► After excitation of both chromophores excitated-state annihilation occurs.
