Infrared spectroscopy of Li+(CH4)n, n = 1-9, clusters

► We report the first study of Li+⋯methane clusters. ► The first IRPD spectroscopy of second shell CH4 in ion⋯methane clusters is reported. ► We conclude that Li+ does have a small electrostatic effect beyond the first shell. ► In large clusters, no methane⋯methane interactions are observed.
