Ferromagnetism in thin-walled hollow spheres of non-magnetic inorganic materials

► Thin walled free standing hollow spheres of oxides and nitride have been prepared using amorphous carbon spheres as templates. ► All these otherwise non-magnetic spheres exhibit room temperature ferromagnetism. ► The origin of magnetism has been attributed to defects as evidenced from photoluminescence spectroscopy.
