Microwave-assisted synthesis of surface-passivated doped ZnSe quantum dots with enhanced fluorescence

► A facile microwave-assisted route is established to prepare doped ZnSe quantum dots. ► The obtained quantum dots show bright luminescence due to the surface passivation. ► Compared with CdSe QDs, the prepared quantum dots show much lower cytotoxicity.
