Nature of the excited states in large photochromic dimers: A TD-DFT examination

► TD-DFT is used to investigate the properties of diarylethene dimers. ► Very good agreement with experiment is reached for absorption. ► Orbital analysis helps understanding the observed photochromism. ► The fluorescence wavelength of a key compound is computed.
