Phase separation of a mixture of charged and neutral lipids on a giant vesicle induced by small cations

► Phase separation is depressed for the charged membrane. ► Phase separation becomes distinct as the calcium chloride concentration is increased. Charged domains bud toward the interior of the vesicle by the addition of calcium chloride. ► The theoretical model accounts for the small-cation induced phase separation.
