High-level ab initio calculations on low barrier hydrogen bonds and proton bound homodimers

The proton bound homodimers such as (N2)2H+, (H2CO)2H+ and (CH3OH)2H+ are analyzed as well as the NH4+⋯NH3 system. The conditions for the existence of the truly symmetrical hydrogen bonds are summarized and discussed.
