Photoexcitation of 11-Z-cis-7,8-dihydro retinal and 11-Z-cis retinal: A comparative computational study

HOMO → LUMO transition character of the retinal derivative 11-Z-cis-7,8-dihydro retinal indicates large charge transfer from six-membered ring to polyene chain, not characteristic of native retinal.
