Scanning tunneling spectroscopy of gold nanoparticles: Influences of volatile organic vapors and particle core dimensions

An optimal size of gold nanoparticles was found in STS detection of volatile organic vapors of different polarity, which was accounted for by the combined effects of solvation and nanoparticle dimensions on nanoparticle charging energy.
