Shape-controlled synthesis of silver nanoparticles: Ab initio study of preferential surface coordination with citric acid

Preferential binding of citric acid to different surfaces of silver crystals allows one to grow nanocrystals of preferred shapes. We rationalize the shape-control mechanism by ab initio electronic structure calculations.
