The third and fourth 1Δg states of Na2: A pair of twins

This Letter describes the observation of a pair of 1Δg states lying closely and having an avoided crossing around Rc = 4 Å which agrees well with Marnier's ab initio calculations. The interactions of the potential curves leading to the amplitude-sharing between their wavefunctions make these two 1Δg states act like a pair of twins.
