Effect of the microstructure on concentration quenching in heavily doped Tb2O3-ZrO2 nanoparticles embedded in silica

When energy migration is possible and Tb3+ ions are confined in isolated nanoparticles, the probability of trapping the excitation energy by impurities and defects is sensibly reduced even at high concentration of active ions.
