Low-frequency vibrations of crystalline α,α-trehalose dihydrate

Observed far-infrared spectrum (upper) of α,α-trehalose dihydrate in THz region was compared with calculated spectrum (lower). The two strong peaks at 68 and 76 cm−1 are assigned to the torsion modes of two hydroxymethyl groups combined with the hydrogen torsional motion of two water molecules.
