Ti/CeOx(111) interfaces studied by XPS and STM

► Ceria maintains its fluorite structure with a submonolayer coverage dose of Ti. ► Upon deposition, Ti is oxidized to Ti4 + at the cost of ceria reduction. ► Ti-O-Ce linkages are formed at the surface of ceria. ► Small features of titania at 300 K can order into the chain structures upon heating.
