On the relationship between surface reconstructions and step edge stability on BaTiO3 (001)

► Titanium adatoms influence the step edge direction in BaTiO3. ► New surface reconstructions in thermodynamic equilibrium due to low oxygen chemical potential. ► We render non-polar facets by cutting bonds to titanium adatoms for the first time.
