Spin polarization of the Si(111)-7 × 7 surface: A study with a spin-polarized metastable helium atom beam

► We detected the spin polarization of Si(111) surface using a spin-polarized He⁎ beam. ► H induced change in spin polarization correlated well with the MDS and LEED. ► The spin polarization was attributed to the surface dangling bonds.
