Tribological effect of iron oxide residual on the DLC film surface under seawater and saline solutions

► The amount of iron mass residual was inversely proportional to the wear rate. ► The DLC showed dependence behavior with salt concentration of saline solutions. ► The tribofilm on DLC surface increased the disorder of DLC film structure. ► The iron oxide residual decreased the dispersive component of DLC surface energy.
